Despite the shutdown clubs are still able to access their facilities for maintenance and the like provided that the attendees follow current guidelines around gatherings and social distancing (no more than two people). In fact I would encourage people to do so, finding a way to stay engaged is very important during this time. The time will come when our clubs, sports and facilities will re-open and when that happens it would be fantastic if we are in as strong a position as possible. In the coming days I will send out a FAQ sheet with responsibilities and suggestions for how to maintain your facility during this time and some information around strategic planning for the shutdown, restart and the future. As always Go Clubs team members are available if you have any questions.

Good afternoon Go Clubs, please see below for the latest update regarding the COVID-19 epidemic: General Population – Indoor Gatherings Non-essential indoor gatherings of greater than 100 people will no longer be permitted. Risk mitigation should be applied to gatherings of fewer than 100 people including the following: • In a given occupied space, there must be a density of no more than one person per four square metres of floor space. • Availability of hand hygiene products and suitable waste receptacles, with frequent cleaning and waste disposal. • Promotion of the Department of Health recommendations for unwell individuals to isolate at home and not attend. • For settings where there is ongoing movement and an increased number of interactions between individuals, an individual’s attendance should be less than two hours duration. • For settings that are primarily static such as theatres, restaurants, cinemas, sporting events, an individual’s attendance should be limited to four hours duration. Examples: • Cinemas and theatres to implement decreased density of patrons, which could include alternate seating, staggered seating and alternate rows, except for family groups who may be seated together. • Seated restaurants may need to undertake a significant capacity reduction in order to meet the above density requirements. • Weddings and funerals will need larger spaces, staggered attendance or a reduced number of attendees to meet the above density requirements. • A symphony orchestra or choir will need to consider the measures mentioned above and amend practices to comply with recommendations.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about COVID-19 and social media does not always help (yes, I appreciate the irony of using soical media to denounce soical media)… To get the facts the following links provides the relevant advice from the State and the Feds, they are constantly being updated and a good place to start: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronavirus-covid-19 https://www.health.gov.au/health-topics/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov Use the links, make sure you stay in touch with your state and national sports body and remember that Council Officers and the Go Clubs program is always available to provide help and assistance where we can. If you want to have a chat about the response by your club or anything along those lines please don’t hesitate to contact Tim or myself.
