This is Aron Baynes, Aron is a man of incredible dimensions, he is also one of the top ten basketball players in Australian history. Born in Mareeba he grew up in Cairns. This time tomorrow he will be walking in the opening ceremony at Rio for his second Olympics and be leading man in the Boomers for what some believe is their best chance yet for an Olympic medal. Aron has one of the most incredible work ethics I have ever seen. That is why he is an Olympian.

Go Clubs Super Throw Back Thursday.... Today Go Clubs throws back 1000's of years.... Many Indigenous cultures had a ball sport that involved jumping and kicking and each had its own name and rules. The Gunditjmara of western Victoria had a game known as Marngrook (Game of Ball), which is believed to have inspired the game of Australian Rules. In 1841, Robert Brough-Smyth, an Aboriginal Protector, used marngrook's focus on kicking to distinguish it from the English codes that focussed on handling. "The men and boys joyfully assemble when this game is to be played. One makes a ball of possum skin, somewhat elastic, but firm and strong. The players of this game do not throw the ball….., but drop it and at the same time kicks it with his foot. The tallest men have the best chances in this game. Some of them will leap as high as five feet from the ground to catch the ball. The person who secures the ball kicks it. This continues for hours….." William Blandowski's illustration of Woggabaliri (Never let the ball touch the ground) played by the Wiradjuri.

Throw Back Thursday The Socceroos from their Cairns training camp in 1965 preparing for Australia's first World Cup qualifying campaign said one of the players "“We prepared ourselves in Cairns for four weeks because we heard it was hot in Cambodia,” said Scheinflug. “All we did was train. Train in the morning. Train in the afternoon in the heat. No warm-up games except one match in Ingham. We played one match there and beat a Herbert River select XI 18–0. We had a barbecue after and that’s the only thing we did in four weeks.”
